Have you ever heard of a free line rental mobile deal? Chances are you have not, as they are pretty obscure!
Well, if you haven't, you are about to find out how you can get a completely free mobile phone for 12 months. That means a free handset, with free calls and free text messaging!
Sound too good to be true, well, to a point it is, it is not easy to get a free line rental mobile phone, but, it is possible. There are people who do this year in year out and never pay a penny for their mobile!
The way it works is this, when taking out your new mobile contract the retailer offers to give you cash back, to cover the cost of your bills. So, initially you have to pay the bill as normal. At this point, you are out of pocket, not what you would expect from a 12 months free line rental deal!
Later on in the contract, the retailer will give you the chance to make a claim for cash back from them. This cash back is what actually covers the cost of the mobile phone contract. Once you get that money back from the phone retailer, you will have got your phone cost free for 12 months.
The question you are asking now is probably how do these companies make money from giving away free mobile phones? The answer is they don't! They have to avoid paying that cash back! So, a free line rental deal is actually a battle of wits, with customers trying to get the cashback for a free phone, and the retailers setting them up to fail!
To reduce the number of people making a successful claim, retailers insist that you submit your claim on a particular date hoping you will forget! They also insist that you produce documentation such as phone bills, which they hope you will lose! By putting trips and clauses like these into free line rental deals retailers make sure that enough customers fail to get their cash back for them to make a profit. So, only by you failing to claim can the retailer make their money!
So, in summary, it is possible to get a 12 months free line rental mobile contract, and the deals are legitimate, legal and above board. But, they are also too good to be true. There are a lot of strings attached, and only the smart customer is likely to walk away with a free phone. The rest will pay their line rental as normal!
If you opt for a free line rental deal you would be well advised to organise yourself. Make sure you have the relevant dates and documentation to hand so that when you make your claim it all goes smoothly, and you get your free line rental deal!
