You probably can remember what you did the first time you drove by the gas station and saw that it said $4 for a gallon of gas? I know I started to search for the closest public transportation. But really, it did make me think about fuel for the first time in my life.

Seriously, do you remember what you did the first time you drove by the gas station and saw that it said $4 for a gallon of gas? I know I started to search for the closest public transportation. But really, it did make me think about fuel for the first time in my life.
Hybrids and other alternative fuel vehicles have gotten a lot more attention since then. Are there things you can do to make the car you have more efficient? You bet there is.
#1 Air is your engines friend -- Not only do you need gas to run your car, it needs air as well. Those are two of the components needed to run a internal combustion engine.(The other is a spark) Keep the filter clean and you may be able to save 10% on your fuel efficiency. This is one of the few things you can still do yourself.
#2 You don't need to floor it all the time -- Seriously, you are not a NASCAR driver (well, you might be) you don't need to put the pedal to the floor. Ease into it and you will definitely be a more efficient driver.
#3 Stick to posted highway speeds -- Driving at the posted speed limit my not be fun and exciting but, it will definitely help with your fuel consumption. Use the cruise control when possible. The more consistent you keep your speed the less gas you will use.
#4 You have got to get to your mechanic -- Your car will flat out last longer if you get the scheduled services. Not only that, it will be as fuel efficient as it possible can, so do yourself a favor and see your local mechanic a couple of times a year. I can hear you groaning now.
#5 Sweat it out to save at the pump -- Especially in older cars that don't recycle air through the cabin. If you can roll down the window, mostly if you have a older car, do it. You will save at the pump.
Pick a few and implement them, and you will save money. Every little bit counts.
